Funded by the European Commission and co-ordinated by the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in the UK, ADAM (Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies: supporting European climate policy) was an integrated research project running from March 2006 to July 2009. It has led to a better understanding of the trade-offs and conflicts that exist between adaptation and mitigation policies. ADAM supports EU policy development in the next stage of the development of the Kyoto Protocol and informs the emergence of new adaptation strategies for Europe. WHY IS ADAM IMPORTANT?
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol provide the primary international policy context for the work undertaken in ADAM. ADAM examines the extent to which existing policy trajectories in Europe will deliver Europe's commitments to these agreements and has co-developed with stakeholders portfolios of policy options where current trajectories are insufficient.
