Work Package A1: Assessing Potential Impacts and Adaptive Capacity |
|
|
|
Adaptation Domain
The main Work Package objectives are:
• To develop a formal conceptual basis for describing, interpreting, assessing, modeling and communicating vulnerability to climate change; • To conduct a consistent meta-analysis of existing European impact and vulnerability studies, based on observations and on a review of impact and adaptation studies;
• To study the macro-economic and social effects of climate change in Europe, taking into account uncertainty of future climatic and socio-economic changes;
• To analyze the influence of European policies on the vulnerability to climate change in EU Member States;
• To assess the ability of key European sectors to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
In addition to important analytical innovations and policy insights, Work Package A1 will produce a digital atlas of Europe’s vulnerability to climate change, which will raise awareness of the significance of climate change within the EU and its Member States, as well as elsewhere. Moreover, in close collaboration with Work Packages A2 (Coping with Extremes) and P3 (Case Studies), we will identify and analyze policy alternatives to reduce Europe’s vulnerability to climate change, which are consistent with current European social, economic and environmental objectives.
